The Parachute Regiment win the Yeoman Cup

By Tim Holland

After a red hot day of rugby league in Aldershot the Parachute Regiment came out on top to win the Yeoman Cup in 2015.

From Maj RK Naivalurua REME:

Army Rugby League had another great day of rugby in Aldershot on Wed 1 July 15 in the 2015 Army Rugby League Yeoman (Inter-Unit) 13s Cup. Over 250 soldiers took the field of play on the hottest day of the year so far, in over 5 hours of rugby.

A number of Semi Finals and Finals in the 4 Tier competition went to Golden Point Extra Time (GPET). The Bowl Final was won in GPET by 5 Regt RA from Catterick who beat the Medics from Aldershot.

The Shield Final again in GPET was won by the REDWINGS of 33/101 Engrs from Wimbish who beat 21 Engr from Ripon.

The Plate Final was won by DSEME Bordon who beat 47 Regt RA. The DSEME Chiefs from Bordon as one of the founding and most consistently hard core Unit Rugby League sides in the Army, have taken to the field for the last time before the move of the two REME trade training Schools of DSEME Bordon (10 Trg Bn REME) and DSEME Arborfield (11 Trg Bn REME) to Lyneham next month. I have no doubt that the newly formed DSEME Lyneham (8 Trg Bn REME) will be a future power house of Army Unit Rugby at both codes. The Chiefs were unlucky not to be in the Cup Final as they were only beaten by 1 YORKS with a last minute try in the pick of the Semi Finals.

The Parachute Regt beat 1 YORKS who were the Cup Winners from 2014, in the Yeoman Cup Final 2015 in a very tough game, by two tries to one.

This is ideal preparation for the Paras who take on the Royal Marines in the Trafalgar Cup on Sun 12th July 2015 KO 1300hrs as a curtain raiser to the Salford Red Devils v Hull KR Super League game in Salford.

Brigadier Frank Noble; Chairman Army Rugby League spent the whole day chatting to soldiers from all teams during a superb day of sport.

I would like to thank the officials who did a great job refereeing in extremely testing conditions. I would like to thank my Secretary and Right Hand Man Army Rugby League Naivalurua 9s Cup & Yeoman 13s Cup; WO2 (AQMS) Daz Perraton and my boys from 29 EOD & Search Gp Wksp REME who assisted me in delivering two very successful single day Festivals of RL in 2015. Daz will continue as my foot on the ground for the 9s and 13s in 2016. I would also like to thank Capt Arthur Askey and CSgt Al Boyle who both assisted me in delivering the 9s and 13s in Aldershot.

Where next?
