Lawson Cup Update

By Tim Holland

The 2017 Lawson Cup competition got off to the very best start with a cracking day of rugby league at DSEME Lyneham on 05 Apr 17.

In Gp 1 last year's runners up REME won out 30-24 against INF in an extremely tough game of high quality rugby league.

In Gp 2 RSIGNALS recorded an emphatic 72-16 win against the RAC.

In the day's other action the combined AMS/RAPTC side, known as the "Spartans", played a development game against the AGC, with the Spartans recording a 38-18 win.

In the last game of the day two Army Community RL "powerhouses", the Sappers and the Gunners, went head to head for the Woolwich Cup. With the Sappers looking to retain the Lawson Cup in 2017 they put down a big statement of intent with a 68-14 win over their arch rivals.

Where next?

"Not How Many, But Where" Thirteen Spartans (AMS/RAPTC) had a tough game away against REME, but earned massive respect for never giving up..
The Sappers retain the Lawson Cup RE Rugby League defeated REME Rugby League in the Lawson Cup Final at Odsal, home of the Bradford Bulls, on Sun 04 Sep 16.
